The Clinical and Statistical Study of the Over-term

Abstract
The over-term, which, still, has the highest perinatal mortality, is the important and difficult problem faced by the obstetricians. The results of the statistical study of 479 cases of the over-term deliveries at Korea University Medical College Hospital from January 1st. 1966 to December 31st, 1970, were obtained as following;
1. The incidence of the over-term among total deliveries of 4251 were 479 and 11.2 per-cent, and 11.2 per-cent among the full-term of 3763.
2. Among 479 over-terms, majority of them (305:63.7,%) were in the age group of 25 to 30 years and 26 years of age group had the most of 61 (12.8%).
3. The average birth weight of the over-term was 3.16kg.
4. The primi-para of the over-term had 253, 52.8 per-cent. The incidence of the over-term reduced as the parity of the mother gets greater.
5. The spontaneous vaginal deriveries of the over-term were 210 (43.8%) and after the medical induction, the vaginal deliveries were 117 (24.5%) among the total of 327 (68.3%) of the normal over-term vaginal deliveries. The 14 (2.8%) of the breech deliveries were, also, less than that of the full-term. The other over-term deliveries were accompanied with 11(2.2%) of Intra Uterine Fetal Death, 87 (18.2%) of the vacuum extractions, and 41 (8.6%) of the Cesarean sections.
6. In the indications for the Cesarean section, the numbers of the cephalo-pelvic disproportions were 29 (70.7%), 3 (7.3%) of the transverse lie, and the both cervical dystocia and the face presentation had 2(4.8%) each.
7. The overterms are more than two-fold of toxemins than the full-term.
8. The perinatal mortality of the over-term was 6.5per-cent.
